Women dress alike all over the world: they dress to be annoying to other women. -Elsa Schiaparelli

As much as I understand the importance of shopping for clothing in person, I  adore ordering online! I stick to brands that I know (and know how their sizes fit), so I don’t often order online from unfamiliar brands.  Currently, I am waiting for two items from one of my favourite brands, Kiyonna.

Kiyonna’s Samantha Cinch Dress Kiyonna’s Amelie Peacoat

The only problem with ordering online is that I don’t quite have the patience to wait for my parcel to arrive!

While I am very excited for my items to finally, finally arrive I’m a little uneasy.  I adore Kiyonna and have yet to regret a purchase, and I do love the bright floral print of the dress and the cut and fabric of the coat.  I think I’ll be reassured of my purchase once it gets here and I can try it on.  I am looking forward to the Spring 2011 line from Kiyonna especially their Nottingham Knit Riding Pant (below).

It’s all about hope, kindness and a connection with one another. – Elizabeth Taylor

While I would like to have a non-stop Elizabeth Taylor marathon to mourn the passing of one of the greatest style icons and sex symbols of our time, I am choosing to celebrate her life and find happiness in the fact that she is now with her BFF, Micheal Jackson.

Dame Taylor has always possessed an effortless style and grace.  When I think of 1950s and 1960s style I always think of Elizabeth.  Every photograph this woman looks poised, elegant, and utterly feminine.

Here are some Elizabeth Taylor inspired outfits I stumbled upon on:

“I fell off my pink cloud with a thud.”

-Elizabeth Taylor

I think, somewhere, a pink cloud just found her again.

Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it. -Yves Saint Laurent

Spring has officially arrived! The weather may take a few days, or weeks, to get caught up but the season is definitely upon us.  To celebrate the Vernal Equinox I paired  favorite Suzy Chin for Maggy Boutique dress with a bright kelly green cardigan I picked up last year at Old Navy.  The look was decidedly “Spring” and kept a smile on my face all day long!

There is nothing I love more than a bright, colourful, and cheerful cotton dress! I’ve been working on expanding my collection and one of my favorites from last year include:

This is my pefect summer dress! The shades of blue, crisp white, knee length, fit-and-flare design are perfect for a cotton sundress.  The clean design allows for this piece to be dressed up and dressed down.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to explore a few more outfit options this season.  I’m particularly looking forward to pairing this piece with yellows, oranges, corals, fuchsias, and white. Summer, hurray up and get here!

While I may be a little impatient for warm summer days to arrive, I should pause to focus on and enjoy Springtime.  I’ve already decided on my Easter outfit for this year, it may seem early but I love that, in addition to the religious significance, Easter is a time for a fresh new outfit.  I may not follow the tradition of a new Easter bonnet but I will always remember each Easter of my childhood in which my Mum made sure I had a new dress, usually made by her loving hands, to celebrate the holiday. In honour of the long standing tradition of something new for one’s wardrobe for Easter, I give you Easter Parade from Holiday Inn.

April Showers is one of my favourite springtime songs, even if I can’t quite handle watching Bambi without bursting into tears!

Here is my tentative Easter outfit for this year:

I enjoy getting dressed as a Barbie doll. – Vanna White

arbie, to me is my fashion and style idol.  When putting an outfit, or a look, together I try to think if this is Barbie-esque and by that I don’t mean dressed from head to toe in pink or fuchsia, though those are my favourite colours.  To me, Barbie’s style is effortlessly chic, well groomed, colourful, and filled with feminine details.  Looking back to some of the outfits Barbie wore in 1959 and the early 1960s provide inspiration for modern interpretations and a reminder that style can be timeless.  Here are a few of my favourite looks from Barbie’s closest (with a couple repeats):

Barbie’s wardrobe is filled with red, white, and blue in true Americana style.  As a Canadian I don’t fully relate to the patriotic connotations from these colours but I do appreciate the classic elegance embodied by these three hues. From these images, taken from original Barbie catalogues, there is not a lot of pink but a full spectrum of choices to choose from.  The connection between Barbie and the colour Pink, apparently in ALL shades and variations, is somewhat of a mystery to me.  For the first few decades of Barbie’s existence her wardrobe was not saccharine but very All-American/ Girl Next Door.  These are the cues I take from Barbie, with a healthy dose of pink.  I don’t always follow my “Barbie Guide,” but I try to evaluate the timelessness and classic nature of the clothes that I chose to invest in.

Here are a few pieces that I am hoping to add to my wardrobe this Spring:

The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

hose who live in Vancouver must learn to make nice with the rain.  While most of Canada suffers through snow for most of the Autumn, Winter, and early Spring seasons Vancouver has rain – lots and lots of rain.  The best thing one can do is find ways to enjoy the rain. Personally, I believe in fun and colourful umbrellas and I always have one in my purse.  As a borderline obsessed Disney fan, my two favourites to get me through definitely put a smile on my face when it’s grey out. They may not be the most fashionable option but I love them all the same!

Here is an image of one that I picked up last August to get me through some stormy days.

Disneyland Umbrella, 2010

After a very busy week I was looking forward to having a day off together with my fiance.  We love spending rainy days together even if it is just to run errands, grab some coffee, and watch a film.  So, in our style, we did just that.  I was a little self-indulgent and purchased a few pick-me-ups to tide me over until we get some warmer, sunnier, and dryer weather.  Paired with Chai Tea Lattes, cake pops, and Star Wars it made for a lovely day spent together.

In my shopping bag:

Marc Jacobs, Daisy Eau So Fresh

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

Such a fresh, floral, springtime scent! I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I first tested it and I am very pleased with this purchase! I have a rather extensive perfume collection but my favourites are: Marc Jacobs Lola, Givenchy Hot Couture, Givenchy Very Irresistible, and Dior Miss Dior Cherie.

Revlon Colourburst Lipgloss in Hot Pink Rose, Peony, and Strawberry

Revlon Colourburst Lipgloss in Hot Pink Rose and Strawberry (far right and far left)

I was very pleasantly surprised with these glosses! Lip gloss is such a  fickle thing, I find it nearly impossible to find a satisfying balance of pigment, shine without the sticky texture which seems to act as a magnet for stray hairs around the face.  So far, I have only tested them for a couple minutes but plan to use them daily.  I hope that they wear well throughout the day and as much as I love to reapply my gloss all day long, practicality is key, and that does not always happen.

Revlon Colourburst Lipstick in Candy Pink

Revlon Colourburst Lipstick in Candy Pink

I picked up this amazing Barbie Pink shade with a huge smile on my face!  I already purchased Carnation and Fuchsia and have really enjoyed wearing them.  They are smooth to apply and last a fair while.  Carnation has been my colour of choice for day and Fuchsia in the evening; however, Candy Pink may steal Carnations position as my daily colour.

My new waiting-for-Spring-finds will get me through until the Sunshine arrives and Daylight Savings, while I lose an hour’s sleep, mean that the sunlight will stay with us longer in the late afternoon.

Ivanka Trump Shoe Line

I’m off to explore the Ivanka Trump shoe line which has caught my attention as of late, and will surely be making it’s way to my shoe collection!
